This story is dedicated to my awesome Mum because she does so much for me and I love her tons! <3
(I know it's actually Mother's Day tomorrow but I wanted to post it today) ;)
It was crisp and bright Sunday morning in March; everyone in Highfields Farm was fast asleep.
Ring! Ring! Isabella Hunter-Smyths' alarm clock rang. Isabella groaned and silenced the alarm. Just as she was about to drift off to sleep again, Isabella jumped up in her bed remembering it was Mother's Day!
She leapt out of her bed, made her bed and crept across her attic bedroom to wake up her brother.
'Hector! Hector wake up!' Isabella prodded him gently.
'Wha-' Hector began.
'It's Mother's Day, remember, Hector!' Isabella exclaimed. After some gentle persuasion from his sister, Hector got out of his bed, got dressed and descended the ladder quietly. They passed their parent's bedroom almost silently, and crept down the stairs to the kitchen.
'Right then, Mother won't her breakfast until 8, which gives us plenty of time to do her chores before we make breakfast,' Explained Isabella. 'Hector, please could you lay and light the fire, sweep the living room and plump the cushions. I'll scrub the kitchen and do the washing and ironing,'
'Good plan, Izzy, lets get to work!' Hector agreed, happily, as he yawned.
Isabella did the washing.
And the ironing.
Hector lit the fire.
And swept the living room.
'Finished?' Asked Isabella as Hector walked into the kitchen.
'All done, let's start breakfast!' Hector suggested, happily.
They made breakfast nice and quickly, and laid it neatly on a tray.
'Oh no, we haven't got her a present!' Cried Hector!
'Lucky I remembered, then!' Laughed Isabella.
Hector carried the tray up, and Isabella took the present and card. Isabella quickly woke up their baby sister Georgina.
'Happy Mother's Day, Mother!' They chorused.
'Oh this is such a wonderful surprise, my darlings!' Camilla Hunter-Smyth beamed, as she and Charles sat up in bed. Hector set down the tray, and Isabella gave her the gift. She then lifted Georgina onto the bed.
'Open it! Open it!' The children said.
When she had finished breakfast, she thanked the children.
'Thank you so much darlings for a lovely breakfast, but now I must get on with my chores!' Camilla said, smiling.
'No, you don't!' Hector laughed.
'Oh I do!' Camilla explained. 'The fire needs to be lit!'
'Done!' Said Hector.
'The next load of washing needs to be put in the tub,'
'Done!' Said Isabella.
'The living room floor needs sweeping!'
'Done!' Said Hector.
'But surely there must be some ironing for me to do?!' Said Camilla, sounding very surprised.
'No, we've done it,' Smiled Isabella.
'Izzy got us up early and organised everything for you,' Hector explained.
'That is lovely of you both!' Beamed Camilla. 'But what should I do instead?'
An hour later, having had a luxury bubble bath organised by Isabella, Camilla Hunter-Smyth was sitting comfortably in her favourite armchair on freshly plumper cushions reading a book in front of the roaring fire.
'What a delightful day!' Exclaimed Camilla.
'You deserve it!' The children smiled.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Mums out there! (But I think it's only Mother's Day today in the UK?)
